Which Is More Important: A Bug That Breaks a Quest, or an Error in the Dialog Text? The Correct Answer Is That Neither One nor the Other Can Be Missed

The player’s experience is destroyed equally effectively by a build crash or by a phrase that grates on the ears of a native speaker. Example 1: RPG in a medieval setting.

Imagine: a player is going through an important story quest. According to the script, the NPC blacksmith should issue a reward and open access to the next location. There are two options for failure.

Technical bug: the dialog box simply does not appear. The quest freezes. The player reboots three times, spits, and goes off to write an angry review.

Linguistic bug: the box appears, but in the localization, the blacksmith says a phrase that, in slang, means “Here’s your toothpick, loser” instead of “Here’s your sword, hero”. The native speaker is shocked. The screenshot is flying to X (formerly Twitter). The post gets 50 thousand likes. Not the virality you were dreaming of.

The result: the player received a negative experience, and the studio suffered a reputational blow. The first option broke the mechanics. The second is trust.

Our responsibilities include:

  • technical and graphical aspects: whether the desired event is triggered, whether the box pops up, and whether the character model and the text on it are displayed correctly;
  • language and culture: how a native speaker will perceive this text.

With this approach, the client doesn’t have to choose between code stability and localization quality. Both directions are controlled within a single process.

All platforms:

  • PC (including Steam builds);
  • iOS, Android;
  • mobile games via emulators on PC.
