This type of interpreting is performed by the translator almost simultaneously (word-for-word translation) as they listen to what is being said. Classic simultaneous interpreting is performed using special equipment and interpreter booths. Simultaneous translation requires two interpreters, working in pairs.

Simultaneous interpreting demands an excellent knowledge of foreign languages as well as the interpreter’s native tongue, years of preparation, quick reactions and special skills that allow the interpreter to simultaneously listen to and translate the words being spoken, without waiting for the speaker to finish.

Simultaneous interpreting is used for events of any format in which foreign guests are participating, especially where there is a large number of participants and a need for the proceedings to be interpreted into several languages at the same time. These include events such as forums, conferences, seminars, congresses, presentations, and so on. With simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter sits in a special booth and the interpreted speech is broadcast to event attendees via headphones.

The advantages of a simultaneous interpreting service over other types of interpreting are:
