A special technology project for an international social network by the Janus Worldwide team
The Janus Worldwide expert team is happy to share details about a notable completed technology project for an international social network. The Janus Worldwide team was tasked with automating the localization process as far as possible and then moving to an ongoing localization process.
The customer has its own translation management system (PTS), which regularly receives strings written by developers to be localized into multiple target languages. There are up to 18 language pairs. Previously, the customer needed to upload files from their system and send them to the Janus Worldwide team for translation by e-mail. Janus Worldwide required engineering the files to work efficiently in its own translation management system, Janus TMS, which features translation memories and glossaries. On top of this, the deadlines and costs also had to be agreed specifically for each project, making the localization process technically complex, time-consuming, and requiring multiple approvals. As an IT company, the customer proposed finding a technological solution to streamline the process, and that solution was data exchange via an API.
The goal was successfully achieved: file exchange between the customer system and Janus Worldwide is now implemented via a fully secure API. The required files arrive at Janus Worldwide in a ready-to-use format, with all service attributes hidden by specially configured filters that do not require manual processing. As a result, translators can get to work almost immediately. Files are automatically transferred from stage to stage within the translation process, and delivered to the customer’s system as soon as they are ready. This automation allows Janus Worldwide project managers to focus on the important translation management tasks of monitoring and risk management, rather than manual routines.
Localization continuity is ensured by sending new strings to Janus Worldwide’s TMS for translation twice a day. The average turnaround time is down to 12 hours instead of several days. If individual strings need to be rechecked, the customer’s system independently sends them to Janus Worldwide, and retrieves them after verification. Thanks to this algorithm, processes are uninterrupted, transparent and predictable.
The next stage in automating processes was to end constantly approving budgets and exchanging estimates via e-mail. For this purpose, an additional API was created that linked Janus Worldwide’s ERP system with the translation system of the Odnoklassniki customer. After receiving materials from the customer, Janus TMS automatically transfers project statistics, including translation memories to Janus Worldwide ERP, where the final budget is formed based on rates agreed with the client in a contract. As a result, on average of 15 minutes after sending the files for translation, the customer’s system can query the job cost data from the Janus Worldwide ERP system and receive an answer. No more precious time-consuming additional approvals are required.
Not only technical work was required to maximize resource turnover, but also teamwork. A permanent team of linguists was formed for the project, working according to an agreed schedule. This ensures both operational efficiency, as well as consistently high quality. We thank the customer for the fact that we have been assigned such high-tech, complex tasks, and that the solution helps us develop for the benefit of our customers. Since our company was founded, we have been committed to continuous improvement. We believe that not only should the quality of translation be first-rate, but also that the process of interaction between the company and the customer while solving various linguistic tasks should be convenient, simple and transparent. It is great that timely requests from our customers are successfully implemented and give birth to modern technological solutions.
