Termcheck 2.0: New Version Released
Tuesday, 07 October 2014 01:00

In October 2014, the new version of Termcheck terminology check tool was released, Termcheck 2.0.

The changes were made mainly with regard to the word form files, capitalization check process and error report structure.

In the new version of the program, you can set the word forms’ file and the fuzzy search percentage for the source and target languages. Thus, Termcheck can now verify terminology according to the glossary for translations not only from non-inflected to inflected languages, but also from inflected to non-inflected and between non-inflected languages.

The new version of the software also supports a flexible capitalization check feature. The capitalization of terms in the text may not conform to the glossary items. During the check, Termcheck calculates the capitalization difference for each term found in the source text and allows for a similar difference for the same term in the target text.

The error report structure has also evolved. New columns have been added for a more convenient filtering and check results interpretation. The second tab now includes the fields where the new parameters of the program are preserved.

The software packages includes word form files for English, German, and Russian.

Termcheck is freely available without any functionality limitations. Click here to download Termcheck.

Janus: High-Level Interpreting
Wednesday, 27 August 2014 07:38

In July and August, Janus Worldwide's Interpretation Center completed a number of projects at major sports events in Kazan.

Following an established tradition, the Janus interpreters were entrusted with working on the highest level, where they successfully tackled every challenge they faced.

Having enriched ourselves with invaluable experience after taking part in such ambitious sporting projects as the Winter Olympics in Sochi, we have also been able to deliver comprehensive linguistic support at a number of other, no less momentous, events.

From July 15 to July 23, Kazan hosted the 2014 World Fencing Championships, under the aegis of the International Fencing Federation. Our colleagues acted as interpreters during official events and numerous press conferences, including those that were attended by the President of the International Fencing Federation and heads of national sporting committees and federations.

On July 17, Kazan hosted the Fair Play: Honor and Achievements in Sports congress. It was one of the events scheduled for the occasion of the Fair Play award ceremony. The plenary meeting speakers included Jenő Kamuti, President of the International Fair Play Committee; Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee; Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan; Mintimer Shaimiev, State Councilor of the Republic of Tatarstan; and Alisher Usmanov, President of the International Fencing Federation.

From August 8 to August 10, Kazan hosted yet another major event, the High Diving World Cup, held at the Kazanka River venue.

The official opening ceremony was preceded by a press conference, attended by Julio Maglione, President of FINA (the International Swimming Federation); Kornel Markulesku, FINA Executive Director; Dmitri Sautin, Vice-President of the Russian Platform Diving Federation, and two times Olympic champion; Orlando Duque, the 2013 high diving world champion; and Khalil Shaihutdinov, Deputy Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan for youth and sports. The linguistic services at this event were also provided by Janus Worldwide experts. In addition, our interpreters were present at the opening and closing ceremony and the official receptions.

To make the work even more fruitful, our colleagues made an important contribution to the One Yeartill the World Aquatics Championship in Kazan conference.

Janus organized a "Translation and localization in the IT sphere" business breakfast
Monday, 23 June 2014 07:05

By tradition, Janus held an event for its customers, familiarizing them with the spectrum of services offered.

The business breakfast was intended to tell customers about the features of work on projects in the IT sphere. The speakers presented an overview of the main activities of the company and showed the features of the process of working on translation in the IT sector.

The global information technology market is constantly evolving. Without such technology, development of companies, individual industries and increasing competitiveness is impossible today. The tasks of experts and translators in addition to translation includes adapting the product to the language of a country. The efficiency of a product and its popularity among users depends on how well translation of IT documentation is performed.

The main difficulty in the work of the translator is not only the ability to translate the text, but also accurately relaying the information. It is accuracy that is the main requirement for IT translations. Therefore, the translator must not only be a professional in his field, but also understand information technology.
